Sunday Serenade is one of the Periodicals here at GTG, which we decided to start up because of our love for Asian music.
What we do for Sunday Serenade is simple: we recommend music videos for you to watch (three at a time). Our main goal is to develop everyone’s
vocabulary in Asian music, showcasing videos from all over (including Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, etc). We will show videos both new and old. Basically, we want to make an Asian music fan out of you.
That being said, let’s get jamming!
This week’s Sunday Serenade theme: Winter Blues
The winter cold is settling in, and don’t try to fight winter without something to keep you warm. We will do our best to combat the winter cold in the form of music. This week, we have three music videos which are bound to make you feel warm inside. So curl up and enjoy some awesome tunes.
Jyongri – “Winter Love Story”
Genre: Pop
Country: Japan
Year: 2008
We don’t hear of this ethnic Korean starlet anymore, as it’s been years since she released her last single. However, many of us who were listening remember jams such as this one, which was also heard on Japanese TV during the time of its peak. Enjoy this video, which features a story about a boy doing all he can to return a lost item to a pretty girl whom he can’t seem to find.
DREAMS COME TRUE – “Tsuretette Tsuretette”
Genre: Pop
Country: Japan
Year: 2008
DREAMS COME TRUE is one of Japan’s most famous bands and they have been around since the late 80′s. This video features a snowman come to life, who then tries to do everything it can to make a stressful girl happy. Does that stressed girl seem familiar? Of course she does, it’s Miyazaki Aoi!
GOSPELLERS – “Toukyou”
Genre: R&B
Country: Japan
Year: 2010
If there’s anyone who can melt the cold of winter, it’s the men of the GOSPELLERS. With their musical roots stemming from doo-wop and soul, these men will make all fans of 90′s R&B smile. With nothing but their vocals driving this video for their song “Toukyou” (冬響/Winter Echo), their voices will definitely make you stop and listen.
Stay tuned next week for more awesome tunes!
