  • A place to practice speaking and writing Asian languages
  • Incredible and ambitious side projects (that needs to be kept secret for now)
  • A potential business model to eventually earn money

Here are the most commonly asked questions:

1.    Is this a paid position?

All positions are voluntary and are thus, non-paid (for now!) We do plan on having paid positions in the future, but priority will be with the people that worked solely for the passion of Asian pop culture and without any compensation. As stated in the "Benefits" section, there are many other perks working with GTG.

2.    So what's with the pre-application form?

GTG requires new applicants to submit a pre-application form. We then read the applicant's writing and have a response to the person shortly. The form is designed to assess not only your level of writing so we can help you improve as a writer, but it also let's us know where your strengths are in developing articles. Since we provide in-depth and thought-provoking articles, writing is our number one form of language! Writing is a major component of assessing new GTG applicants. BUT, knowing that, the essay is not the number one thing we base all our hiring of staff on.

3.    So I made it to the Interview! What should I expect?

We understand that interviewing is not easy for many people, but we are looking for certain things in our interview:

  • General Knowledge of current trends and people involved in the section you are applying for.
  • Deep opinions and insight into political, cultural, and social issues involved in the topic.
  • How well you express yourself, your feelings and opinions in just general.
  • A passion for Asian pop culture.

We recommend finding a comfortable place too. Interviews will generally range from 45 minutes to one hour. The lengthly interview is intended to both weed out non-serious applicants and to ask a variety of questions. Some of the questions may be considered difficult; don't worry about getting every question right. We evaluate interviewees more on their analysis than the standard "right" or "wrong" answers. We wish nothing but the best for all future applicants that make this far!

4.    So how will you be conducting the interviews?

We will be conducting them through Skype. This is for two reasons. The first is many of our Senior Staff live in different areas and timezones, so it's easiest way for us to hold a formal interview.

The second is hearing a voice. While instant messaging (IM) is great for communication, much dialogue, inflection, and meaning is lost through text chat. In addition, IM also presents another problem: people can take as much time to answer a question and possibly look up an answer they otherwise did not know. For both parties, using Skype emulates a live interview in the best manner possible.

Don't worry, if you need a Skype account, it's a free downloadable program in which you can make phone calls for free. For more information and to download, click on the Skype icon to the left.

5.    So I'm all done! When should I be expecting a decision?

Usually within 7 to 10 business days and we will either contact you via-Skype or through email with our decision. We may also contact you to ask for referencesas well if we are needing a little more information.

After you've read the other five sections on the left, are you ready to get started and apply? Here's how in two easy steps!
