GTG was developed using Mozilla Firefox, IE 8, Chrome, and Opera as the test browsers. As to date, the site works
in all four of these popular browsers. Older browsers, such as Firefox 2 and IE7 and below may have problems with the
blue bar (see FAQ 6.) GTG, therefore, recommends to use the newest non-IE and Safari browsers.
2) Is GTG a fixed or liquid display?
Currently, GTG is a fixed display, developed on 1280 x 800 resolution. However, we plan to create liquid displays
for the site.
3) What are the ideal screen resolutions for GTG?
GTG is best viewed in the following resolutions: 1024 x 768, 1280 x 800, and 1440 x 900. While the site works in
all other resolutions, any screens larger than 1440 x 900 will show GTG filling up just the top of the monitor.
4) How do the bar icons work?
There are two types of icons: shortcut buttons and sub-section icons.
Shortcut buttons: Created to avoid the "long scrolling of doom", these icons are essentially shortcut
buttons. Hovering on a button displays the section the button will go to when clicked. When a user clicks on
a button, the page will instantly go to the section.
Sub-section buttons: These buttons go into the sub-category of the current section. For example, for the
"Mixed Media" section, there are various sub-section buttons above. Clicking on the Japanese music charts button will
take the user to that section within the "Mixed Media" area.
5) Why isn't the Flash window showing up in IE?
To dislpay the Flash window, allow ActiveX controls to "be allowed". Internet Explorer 7+, under standard settings, has a
tendency of blocking anything and everything when entering a page.
6) Why do the blue bars on top (Forums, Music, Movies, etc) are on the left side instead in IE?
GTG uses display:inline-block in the CSS for the site, but IE7 and below do not support this command. Since this is a new
CSS command, only newer browsers will support this action (Firefox 3+, IE8, Chrome, Opera.)
