About Us - Intro

We welcome you to Green Tea Graffiti (GTG)! We're proud to present fun, authentic analyses of Asian pop culture. We want to you, the reader, to learn about Asia with us. But why listen to the GTG crew?

Easy. We want to spread Asian pop culture to everyone and want you to join us in the ride. We don't care if you're just new to the scene or already have your favorite Asian fan crush. Us GTGers pride ourselves in being down-to-earth and friendly. In short: we're welcoming to all.

We're fans of Asian pop culture that are heavily involved within the community. Many of us live in Korea, Japan, California, and Canada, places with a large Asian presence. We regularly attend Asian themed events, looking for new ways to share our knowledge with you.

Welcome From top-left going left to right: Starcraft 2 GSL Finals, Fanime 2011, Chemistry Regeneration concert, Girls Generation Seoul 2011 Tour, Japanese art museum, and the 2010 Pusan Film Festival

So what is Green Tea Graffiti (GTG)? Are we a new brand of tea? How about a stylish form of art? We're actually none of the above; rather, we're a site that aims to be the "Asian Wikipedia" of Asian pop culture. From Thailand and China to Japan and Korea, we're all about Southeast Asia. It doesn't matter whether you have Rain, M-Flo, and W-inds on speed dial or you think these three represent an incoming cold front. We, at GTG, welcome anyone to live, breathe, and sleep the same dream we have: to share the passion of Asian pop culture.

The idea for GTG started on a hot, sunny day in California in August 2009. A couple of friends gathered to hang out at a friend's place. What started off as a simple day to relax started to segueway into our passion in Asian pop culture. We noticed a majority of Asian themed websites, magazines, and TV programs focused on celebrity news, gossip, and the release dates for new music and movies. While many of us were interested in such topics, we wanted to promote the Asian arts in a different light.

We envisioned a site where people can discuss thought-provoking ideas and interesting topics. Questions such as: who are the most influencial Japanese music artists today, what is the Korean "Hallyu Wave", and how American music influenced Asian melodies are just some of the topics GTG wanted to delve into. Thus, the idea of GTG was born. There was no turning back.

Green Tea Graffiti wishes to unite a front on Asian media, striving to branch out to Asia as a whole, rather than solely focusing on one country. From anime, music, and movies to video gaming and the culture itself, we know that vistors to GTG are not just focused on one hobby - such as music - but a variety of activities and GTG reflects this. Our doors at GTG are always open, so feel free to discuss unique topics on the forums with both the GTG staff and other GTGers. After all, you are now a part of the community.
