The stage is set for Saturday’s ACC tournament championship game as Georgia Tech takes its first conference tournament title since 1993 against Florida State No. 2 after a dramatic Friday for a tournament hit hard by the COVID-19 protocols .
After Virginia took the number 1 seed out of the bracket on Friday morning due to a positive COVID-19 test, there was only one game left in the semifinals of the ACC tournament. The one game that was played managed to deliver when the Seminoles struck a 69-66 win over the number 6 in North Carolina.
After Florida State secured a double bye in the tournament and its quarterfinal opponent Duke was ousted by a COVID-19 problem, he played after a triple bye for the first time this week. In contrast, the Tar Heels played their third game in three days. Still, UNC appeared to have plenty of energy left in the second half when it came back from a half-time deficit of 35:24.
Ultimately, the Seminoles survived when Center Balsa Koprivica scored 10 of their 17 game-strong points against UNC’s deep source of high quality tall men in the second half. The win should help the Seminoles regain some of the momentum lost during an angry Notre Dame defeat that cost the FSU a regular season title last Saturday.
