“It was like ‘Alex Trebek nodded my direction!'” He told CNN Anderson Cooper on Monday on “Full Circle”. “What a thrill!”
Cooper, who said he had been a fan of the show since high school, admitted that he too was “messed up” in Trebek when he first appeared on Celebrity Jeopardy. He wanted to go to lunch with Trebek just to be in his presence.
Although both men admitted to having been struck by the stars, it was a sense of humility that they both noticed most in Trebek.
“Trebek really was the perfect host,” said Cooper. “He was smart, he was funny when it was asked, he was decent, he was confident enough to know that he didn’t have to do the show about him.”
Marin agreed, adding that Trebek had a way of “making you feel good even if you looked stupid at times”.
And the reach of the show went beyond the competition. Jeopardy and its host since 1984 have pushed the envelope to bring people together, Cooper said.
“It’s an institution that teaches the value of the pursuit of knowledge and the pursuit of fun is,” he said.
And although Marin for one of Cooper’s two defeats during his four appearances on “Celebrity Jeopardy!” Was responsible. The show still brings them together.
“I still want a rematch – someday, kind of,” Cooper told Marin.
