After winning three berths in the college football playoffs, the Oklahoma Sooners missed their first losses to Kansas State and Iowa State in 2020.

However, get ready for an offseason full of hype.

After demolishing Florida between 55 and 20 in the Cotton Bowl, the Sooners ended the season with an eight-game winning streak. They finished the game 9-2, won the sixth consecutive Big 12 title, and ended up pairing a legitimately strong defense with an efficient attack.

The wiping out of Shorthanded Florida was impressive, but the more important clue is what Oklahoma will bring back in 2021.

Even without taking into account his 287 yards and four touchdowns in the Cotton Bowl, quarterback Spencer Rattler reached a total of 3,191 yards and 34 points in his first season as a starter. The Sooners are likely to bring back any offensive skill player except for Rhamondre Stevenson and running back leading rusher Kennedy Brooks in 2019 plans to return after logging out this season. Also, the Sooners are expected to lose only a handful of key contributions to the defense.

Oklahoma will be the Big 12 favorite and a popular choice to make the College Football Playoffs in 2021.

Let’s be clear: bowl records are somewhere between meaningless and of little value. This is not a permanent verdict on the ACC.

But 2020 wasn’t a good postseason for the 0-6 league.

Alabama had little trouble with Notre Dame, and the state of Ohio took Clemson apart. The ACC had two of the four college football playoff teams but has no chance of winning a national title.

Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman– –who threw an interception in 236 regular season passes– –threw a pick on four straight trips in a loss to Wisconsin in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. Miami fell 21-0 behind Oklahoma State, lost quarterback D’Eriq King to a torn ACL and had a comeback ending 37-34.

The state of North Carolina posted three turnovers in a 23:21 loss to Kentucky in the Gator Bowl, and North Carolina fell to Texas A&M 41:27 in the Orange Bowl.

Hey, at least Conference USA finished 0-6 too?

Rose Bowl Game: Alabama 31, Notre Dame 14

Although the matchup didn’t reach Blowout Territory until the third quarter, Alabama controlled the Rose Bowl. Quarterback Mac Jones and receiver DeVonta Smith joined up for touchdowns on two of the Tide’s top three holdings, the second of which immediately responded to Notre Dame’s lone hit in the first half.

“It wasn’t about getting thrown off the ball or not having enough players to play against Alabama,” said Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly told reporters. “This was about making plays.”

And the Irish had big problems in this department.

Ian Book only managed 5.9 yards per pass attempt and Notre Dame rushed for 3.7 yards per carry. That’s just not good enough to keep up with an offense of Alabama’s caliber.

Jones completed 25 of 30 passes for 297 yards and four touchdowns, and hit Smith seven times for 130 yards and three points. Most likely, Jones or Smith will be named the Heisman Trophy winner on Tuesday night. Najee Harris also ran 125 yards back and added 30 yards to the win.

Sugar bowl: Ohio State 49, Clemson 28

When the Buckeyes and Tigers played before a 14:14 deadlock in the first quarter, a highscoring shootout seemed to be on the way. But the next 15 minutes shaped the result.

Quarterback Justin Fields– –who played through a couple of massive hits, including one from James Skalski which resulted in a targeted call and subsequent ejection– –threw three more points before half time. The Buckeyes took the lead 35:14 and left no doubt which sidelines deserved to be celebrated.

“They were the better team and they deserved it,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said via Eleven warriors.

The state of Ohio has recorded 639 yards of attack (an average of 8.9 yards per game), consistently destroying a great Clemson defense. Fields threw 385 yards and six touchdowns while running 42, and Trey Sermon ran 254 yards back before the scrimmage.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw for 400 yards and two touchdowns in what is likely his last college game.

    CFP Championship 2020

Records: Ohio State (7-0) vs. Alabama (12-0)

    When: Monday January 11th

Where: Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida

    Time: 8 p.m. ET

    TV: ESPN

The state of Ohio beat Alabama 42-35 in a CFP semi-final six years ago. This time a national championship is at stake.

Alabama is getting loud. Listed as an eight-point favorite DraftKings.

On the horse chestnut side, most of the headlines ahead of the competition are focused on Fields’ health. For Alabama, they revolve around Jones, Smith and the Heisman race, as well as Steve Sarkisian. The offensive coordinator has accepted the job as head coach in Texas, however, is still planning to call games in the title game via Matt Zenitz from AL.com.

Perhaps it is a fair way for Alabama to pass from Sarkisian’s time as coordinator. Sark replaced four years ago Lane Kiffin– –who had been appointed trainer at Florida Atlantic– –between a CFP semi-final and the national championship.

However, Clemson prevailed against the tide in this competition. Sarkisian hopes to get out of the program better.
