More than 80 counties in Illinois offer COVID vaccine to residents 16 and older - NBC Chicago

More than 80 counties in Illinois have expanded COVID vaccine eligibility for state residents 16 years of age or older, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Citing a survey of local state health departments, IDPH released a list of counties that had already expanded eligibility one week before the state was expected to do the same. There are a total of 102 counties in the state.

The state had previously allowed any local health department “to see early signs of vacant dates to begin vaccinating all residents aged 16 and over at their immediate discretion, in order to use their vaccine as quickly as possible and mitigate the spike in new COVID-19 cases,” he said. IDPH.

As of April 12, eligibility is expected to increase statewide for all residents age 16 and over, although it remains unclear whether Chicago will join the rest of the state in doing so.

According to IDPH, the expansion will mean that all state-supported mass vaccination sites, local health departments and pharmacy partners who receive the vaccine from state allocations will “be directed to fully open eligibility.”
