If Notre Dame # 2 and Clemson # 3 meet again on Saturday in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina, it will be a rematch of their classic game from the beginning of the year, only at much higher stakes. Not only is this a fantastic game on the field between two top 4 teams who met in a double overtime thriller earlier this year, but it’s also one of the greatest games in ACC football history.
It is the first top 5 matchup in the ACC championship game, gives Notre Dame a chance to compete in a conference championship for the first time, and includes two teams that could both land in the college football playoffs The ACC is only the second conference where two teams play in the same playoffs with four teams.
But to players like Trevor Lawrence and Ian Book, who are considered the most successful quarterback in school history in their respective programs, none of that story off the field matters. Clemson missed Lawrence in the Notre Dame defeat and is hoping his return along with several defensive starters will bring a reversal of luck against the Fighting Irish.

Our lady: The Fighting Irish Defense was an elite under Clark Lea, and now we have reached the end of his time at South Bend when Vanderbilt introduced the defensive coordinator as the next head coach. Under Lea, Notre Dame kept 33 out of 36 opponents under 30 points, including LSU, Michigan, Stanford, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Clemson, Georgia, Virginia, marine and North Carolina when they made the top 25. This year, Notre Dame ranked fifth among all Power Five teams with 17.6 points per game, and the group is full of depth and experience that can wear down opponents as they play. The Fighting Irish have won high scoring games and low scoring games on their way to 10-0 in 2020, but one consistent thread has been how seldom they lag behind in a game.
In 600 minutes of regular action, Notre Dame is only 44:47 behind, a testament to how the struggling Irish defense can take control of a game and prevent the opponent from gaining any advantage. It is not expected that Clemson will be limited to less than 20 points, or even kept below 30, but Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne In chess is a huge chunk of how Notre Dame can complete the Tigers two-game battle and win its first conference championship.
Clemson: Travis Etienne has the career ACC rushing touchdown record, the ACC career touchdown record and is 10 points from the pass Florida State Kicker Dustin Hopkins as the ACC career scoring leader. But he’s had six games in a row with less than 100 rushing yards and the Tigers’ rushing offense didn’t hum in the same clip as it did in 2018 and 2019. This is especially important to get the matchup off to the Fighting Irish. since Etienne was limited to only 28 rushing yards on 18 attempts at the first meeting that year. Etienne is the all-purpose star he is and with 57 receiving yards still found ways to make an impact in the passing game. However, a consistent ground attack against one of the best running defenses in the country is perhaps the clearest path to victory for Clemson.
Trevor Lawrence is with his addition to the equation that Clemson can certainly beat Notre Dame without Etienne rushing 100 yards, but if he got him going and avoided tons of third and long scenarios for Lawrence, things would go a lot easier on the offensive.
Notre Dame vs. Clemson prediction
That line is just rude to Notre Dame, a team that have played at a high level, week after week, for most of the season. The Fighting Irish were 5.5 point underdogs when they won South Bend earlier this year and are now in the rematch as double digit dogs? Defending the red zone is a great way to cover spreads. I think Clemson will win but it won’t be more than a touchdown. Selection: Notre Dame +10.5
