A new contender has emerged for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Denver Broncos defense attorney Kareem Jackson says he has spoken to Watson a few times and that Watson is “interested in landing with the Broncos”.
Jackson, who played two seasons with the Texans with Watson, was pretty open about his Conversations with Watsonand said to TMZ: “I had a few conversations with you [Watson]. Just because he says Denver is a place he wants to land. “
Jackson spoke highly of Watson’s ability and said he would make any team an instant competitor. Jackson also made sure not to offend the current Broncos quarterback. He said he was very fond of Drew Lock and believed that Lock can move the team forward.
What would the Broncos give up for Deshaun Watson?
The Broncos would likely be at a disadvantage to Watson in trade talks. While the team is number 9 overall in the 2021 NFL draft, it only has one selection in the first round. Both the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets can offer two picks for the first round in 2021.
However, if the dolphins and jets choose to pass the pass, the Broncos could become a fascinating option. The team would likely have to offer multiple draft picks, including two or three first-round picks for Watson. Additionally, the Broncos would likely have to send Lock – and possibly another player – to the Texans for Watson. Whether this is a strong enough offer depends on how new Texas general manager Nick Caserio and head coach David Culley Lock face. Do they like Lock more than Sam Darnold, Tua Tagovailoa, or any of the other young quarterbacks offered in exchange for Watson?
Will the Texans trade with Deshaun Watson?
While Watson is trying to force a trade, Caserio and Culley have indicated that Watson should stay. In January Caserio said he had “Zero interestIn dealing with Watson. The quarterback replied with Texans take out mentions his social media profiles. The two should I haven’t spoken since Caserio was hired.
The Texans don’t have to worry about Watson as he is under contract with the team until the 2025 season. But if Watson makes it clear he won’t be playing for the team, Caserio may have no choice. He would be wise to start exploring other young quarterbacks now, as the situation with Watson cannot be saved at the moment.
