SPOILER ALERT: Do not read any further if you have Season 5, Episode 2 of “The masked singer, “Which aired on Fox on March 17th.
The phoenix doesn’t always rise. Caitlyn Jenner, who appeared as Phoenix on Wednesday in the episode of “The Masked Singer,” was the next celebrity to be debunked in the hit Fox series.
Among the panelists, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg was the only one who got it right and ended up calling Jenner. Ken Jeong, who was initially right by naming Jenner as his first impression, ended up going the wrong way, giving RuPaul as his last choice. Robin Thicke thought it was Laverne Cox and Nicole Scherzinger thought it was Jonathan Van Ness.
Jenner sang “Tik Tok” by Kesha. The Olympic gold medalist told the story diversity that her son Brandon assisted with language training. “He’s got his own band, he’s got his own studio. And so, besides the coaches they gave me from the show, I probably used Brandon more than anything because I could just go down the street to his studio and try to work the songs out. I had three songs down, but unfortunately I couldn’t get to the next two. “
Jenner next had The Temptations and John Denver songs to perform. But she isn’t disappointed that she has to leave early.
“Honestly, I figured I couldn’t go any further than three songs,” Jenner said. “If you get to the finals, you have to do eight songs. For some of the songs you might only have a day or two to prepare. You have to learn this song, you have to learn the lyrics and then you have to have choreography in it. I thought I don’t think I can do it. Yeah, that would have been tough. “
Jenner said her only singer experience was performing as “Li’l Abner” in a summer festival musical in Birmingham, Ala., In the 1980s. “I’m not a singer, but hopefully I can be as entertaining as possible on stage,” she said. “It’s definitely a challenge. When I first went out I thought thank God. “
As for the Phoenix costume, Jenner said she was looking for something that was gender neutral.
“I didn’t want it to be too feminine, I didn’t want it to be too masculine,” she said. “My voice doesn’t really match who I really am. I’ll stick with the old voice, which is fine, I’m good at it. But it doesn’t really go together. So I thought they’d have a really hard time figuring it out. If I had an outfit that was too masculine or feminine it would be easier to figure out.
“So we literally started this costume two months before the show and I have to give my hats to the costume designers, these people are amazing,” Jenner added. “The workmanship, the creativity that went into it was just incredible. It was really very comfortable inside. It’s obviously heavy, but it was very comfortable inside … I was so proud of what the costume designers did. “
As for next, as the world hopefully goes back to normal, Jenner said she was eager to work more after the pandemic.
“I started a YouTube channel just because I had nothing else to do during the pandemic,” she said. “I think we learned this year that before all of that, our life is pretty good. When everything is taken from you, it’s fine for a while, but for a long time, no. I always had a lot of energy. I always enjoy doing things. I always enjoy being involved in projects. Fortunately, I played a lot of golf. The golf game is very good. I have this now. But I like to do other things. So, [I’m ready to] return to some kind of normalcy. “
Meanwhile, guest host Niecy Nash was back on the show on Wednesday, continuing her stand-in for regular host Nick Cannon, who was unable to return for the first episodes of this season due to a COVID-19 diagnosis.
Also new this season are wildcard participants who will be included in the competition and join the fight for the golden mask trophy. Season five celebrities are split into two groups of five (A and B), but then brand new masked celebrities jump into the “wildcard” rounds and compete as well. Additionally, the show has added a new character, a rooster named “Cluedle-Doo,” who promises to add some mischief to the action and give viewers additional clues.
This season’s costumes include raccoon, clam, black swan, snail, grandpa monster, phoenix, chameleon, Russian doll (s), porcupine, piglet and wild cards. Jenner as Phoenix joins previously exposed celebrity Kermit the Frog (as the snail).
Season 5 entrants have a total of 26 Grammy nominations, nine multi-platinum singles, four Oscar nominations, three Super Bowl appearances, six gold medals and two world records.
The show’s panelists also compete for a “Golden Ear” trophy once based on their first impressions of each masked performer (which McCarthy won last time). Nobody received votes in the first week. that week McCarthy Wahlberg and Jeong went for the Phoenix with Jenner; Thickes was Laverne Cox; and Scherzinger went with Perez Hilton. So far, that gives Jeong and McCarthy Wahlberg one point each.

Song: “Barracuda” by heart
Cluedle-Doo’s note to you: “Black Swan covered a monster.”
Voice over: “Black swans like me are incredibly rare. But I didn’t take into account that my talent could turn me into someone else’s prey. I was trapped, hypnotized by a Hollywood dream that I couldn’t resist, that would make my dreams come true. But there was a high price to pay. I fell under a deep spell and was afraid I would never see the light again. When suddenly my trusty dress flew to my rescue and set me free. I am ready to show the world that I am in control. “
Panel guesswork: Anya Taylor-Joy, Camilla Cabello and Leona Lewis.
Song: “Mambo No. 5 (A bit of …)” by Lou Bega
Cluedle-Doo’s note to you: “Grandpa Monster has trained to fight before.”
Voice over: “Hey young whippersnappers. When I think about my long life, I can’t believe the restless fool I was as a teenager. Always act to keep all eyes on me. Until a teacher pulled me aside after class and made me realize that I was smarter than the character I was playing. I then decided to put the “eye” in Einstein and became a star student. I’m still working to shake my bad reputation. Hopefully when this old monster takes off his mask you won’t be afraid of who I was long ago. “
Panel guesses: Johnny Manziel, The Miz, Scott Disick
Song: “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly
Cluedle-Doo’s note to you: “Chameleon has a history of precious stones.”
Voice over: “In contrast to most of my fellow cameras, I don’t just fit in, I use the ‘technology’ in Technicolor. It was all because of my pops telling me to always keep up with the times. He encouraged me to tinker with every device and gimmick. Years later, when my career was almost over and I felt completely lost, I leaned back on what he had taught me. I used those tech-savvy skills from my childhood to improve my career and change the game. Now I am here to change this game. Trust me, I will not interfere. Let’s jam. “
Panel guesses: Dwight Howard, Redfoo and Nick Cannon
Song: “Speechless” by Dan + Shay
Cluedle-Doo’s note to you: “Piglet knows how to stay cool even in the heat.”

But hey if you know you know right Sure, I gave away a few roses and the world saw my heart break. Some flowers have very sharp thorns I think. But that never stopped me from keeping my heart on my sleeve. That may sound crazy, but I see a future on this stage. So will you accept this pile of mud? It may only be the first round, but I’m already falling in love with you. “
Panel guesses: Adam Lambert, Charlie Puth
